Neighborhood Bridges Launches in Harrison to Support Students in Southwest Local School District

Harrison is excited to welcome Neighborhood Bridges, a program launching on Monday, October 21st, to serve the entire Southwest Local School District. This initiative connects local resources and the community at large with students in need, making it easier for everyone to get involved. Whether it’s school supplies, clothing, or other essentials, Neighborhood Bridges is about removing barriers so students can focus on what matters—learning and succeeding.

Melanie Moore, Area Director for Neighborhood Bridges, is a passionate advocate for community engagement and the support of our Harrison schools and students. She works tirelessly to partner with local initiatives that cultivate an environment of kindness and connection. Melanie believes that by collaborating with schools and community organizations, we can all create a nurturing space for our children to thrive. She is dedicated to inspiring others to get involved in making a positive impact in the lives of those around them.

Why Harrison Needs Neighborhood Bridges

Harrison, like many communities, is seeing an increase in the number of students living in poverty, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time, more children in poverty now live outside urban centers than within them. This growing need calls for a program like Neighborhood Bridges that can quickly and efficiently provide support without red tape, forms, or delays.

By helping students meet basic needs, Neighborhood Bridges ensures more kids have the opportunity to succeed in school and life.

The majority of households in an average community do not have students involved in the school system. Neighborhood Bridges provides an easy and impactful way for these households to stay engaged and support local schools, fostering a stronger, more connected community.

How It Works

The process is simple. School counselors, social workers, and other community leaders identify the needs of students, and those needs are posted on the Neighborhood Bridges website. The privacy of students and families is always protected. Residents who wish to help can visit the website, select the Harrison community page, and sign up to receive email alerts when new needs arise. From there, it's as easy as dropping off donations at our donation center, which is set to to be the District Office at 10800 Campbell Road.

Neighborhood Bridges harnesses the power of social media and local involvement to spread kindness. With a network of over 250,000 donors, advocates, and volunteers, this program has a proven track record of meeting needs quickly and effectively.
